About Gail Edmonds

Gail Edmonds is a life-long artist and arts educator whose cultural roots are grounded in the Northeast, yet whose aesthetic sensibilities are deeply influenced by the ever-changing landscapes, indigenous cultures and spirituality of the American Southwest. She was first introduced to the Four Corners region over two decades ago on an archaeological trip which proved to be life-changing. She was immediately drawn not only to the land, but to the creative energy found in and surrounding Santa Fe, the “City Different,” where she continued to return for inspiration, finally establishing a home and studio there in 2010.

Edmonds, a CT native, received her MALS degree in painting from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT and a BA in arts education and art history from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY. She continued her artistic pursuits through other professional programs as well including the study of papermaking, artist’s bookmaking and encaustic painting at R & F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY.  She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants for her artwork and noted contributions to arts education at the state and national levels.  These include awards from the National Arts Education Association, the Getty Center, the CT Arts Education Association, the CT Commission on the Arts and the CT Komen Race for the Cure.

Public collections holding Edmond’s work include: the Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ, Republic Bank, Dallas, TX, the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital, CT, City Place, Hartford, CT, Wesleyan University and the City of Middletown, Middletown, CT.  Her work is included in numerous other public and private collections.

Gail Edmond’s work has been widely exhibited in numerous solo, invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the Northeast and nationally at notable institutions such as The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, the Wadsworth Atheneum, the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University.  Her work has been selected for exhibition and awards by such notable figures as Judy Chicago, Miriam Shapiro, Helena Hernmark and Andrea Keller.
